What Is the Mattress Recycling Fee?

Certain states require retailers to collect a recycling fee for each mattress, foundation, or box spring sold. This fee helps fund programs that collect used mattresses and recycle their materials.

For orders shipped to applicable states, Mattress Express collects the required fee for each eligible item. The fee is listed separately at checkout.

Which States Require the Fee?

The mattress recycling fee applies to orders shipped to:

• California
• Connecticut
• Oregon
• Rhode Island

Fee amounts vary by state and are subject to change. The applicable amount will be shown at checkout.

Free Old Mattress Pickup in California

Under California law, customers are eligible for free pickup of one used mattress for each new mattress purchased.

Because Mattress Express delivers through common carriers such as UPS or FedEx, pickup is arranged separately and will take place within 30 days of delivery of your new mattress.

To request pickup, please contact support@mattressexpress.com when placing your order or as soon as possible after delivery.

We may decline pickup if the used mattress is contaminated or poses a health or safety risk.
